Shore hardness

Shore hardness is a measure of material hardness, mainly for elastomers and polymers. To determine the Shore hardness, a steel pin (indenter) is pressed into the test specimen with a spring force. The penetration depth of the pin represents the Shore hardness. Depending on the indenter, which can vary in terms of face area and diameter, a distinction is made between the Shore methods A, C and D.
