Slideways

Generally speaking, a slideway is a linear guide on which the various guiding elements are not separated by rolling elements.
The different types of slideway include hydrodynamic, hydrostatic, aerostatic, and magnetic.  These slideways exhibit very different properties with regard to load-bearing capacity, friction, costs, damping, and precision.
